Laura Wears ... drapey dress pants and a silk ruffle blouse

Blouse:  Banana Republic {a few years old - last seen here - similar styles: 1, 2, 3 and 4}
Sweater:  Mexx {recent in-store purchase - can’t find it online}
Pants:  Club Monaco {purchased last fall - it’s hard to tell from these photos, but they have a really small print - similar here, here and here}
Necklace:  Gorjana
Purse:  Pour la Victoire
Sandals:  J.Crew back zip sandals

We are having an unseasonably cool August.  As a result, I have been bundling up more than normal.  While I am not impressed at what appears to be an early fall, I know the dogs are loving the cooler temperatures…  I suppose that can be the silver lining…

Unfortunately, since is has also rained on-and-off every day this week, I was unable to watch the Perseid meteor showers (clouds blocking the view).  This is normally one of my favorite summer rituals -  I can spend hours watching the night sky.  It really grounds me - makes me realize how we are part of something so much larger.

Silk bermudas

Shirt:  Club Monaco Frieda Cotton and Mesh top
Shorts:  Club Monaco {sold out, but they have other similar styles still available - here and here.  As does J.Crew}
Bracelets:  Gorjana leather wrap; thrifted bangles; c/o INPINK infinity bracelet
Sunglasses:  Aldo {Cdn link here}
Purse:  Pour la Victoire Haven
Shoes:  SoftMoc {similar}

These silk bermuda shorts have quickly become my summer favorite.  I really like the flowy silk and the longer length.  Maybe I am getting old or maybe I am just too picky (or looking in the wrong place), but I’m really unimpressed with the shorts offerings this summer.  Everything seems too short.  And too tight.  Anything that doesn’t fit into the above category seems to be made of cotton.  Which inevitably wrinkles…quickly.  I think that’s why this Club Monaco pair is in such high rotation.  They are the polar opposite of everything I mentioned above.  And perhaps, in a way,  they are my own personal protest against the summer parade of daisy dukes and hot shorts.

Oh Canada!

As someone who doesn’t particularly like wearing the color red (I think it makes my face look too flush), I am always perplexed about what to wear on Canada Day (July 1).  This year I opted for a white dress with a reddish purse & I am quite happy with the results :)

Dress:  J.Crew eyelet shirtdress {on sale!}
Necklace:  J.Crew Factory {old - nearly identical here and here}
Bracelets:  Gorjana leather wrap; thrifted branch-like bangles {similar}
Sunglasses;  Aldo Agrayssa {Cdn link here}
Purse:  Lauren Merkin Louise Raffia Clutch {Cdn link here}  {Also available at Amazon…on sale too!}
Shoes:  J.Crew metallic suede Cleo loafers {also on sale!}

Lately…

I sprained my ankle playing softball on Saturday (stepped on the 3rd baseman’s foot while running). Once the swelling goes down, my athletic therapist will be able to better grade the severity of the sprain (although she has already commented on how amazingly bad it looks).

I have never needed crutches before, so my learning curve has been huge.  I have quickly figured out that pockets and a backpack are requirements & I am slowly getting more coordinated.  If you have any tips or tricks to share, I would love to hear them!

I snapped this pic on my way to work on Wednesday (purposely keeping my injured foot out of the shot).  The shorts are from Club Monaco (picked them up during an extra 50% off sale).  The blouse is from J.Crew Factory, the sweater is from Zellers, the coat is Nike (very similar), and the shoes are from SoftMoc.  And…the crutches are from the 80’s…they were my dads :)  He dug them out of the basement when I got back from the hospital.   Everyone seems amused that I have wood crutches.  It’s the oddest thing…
